Version History

Scriptorium quietly protects your drafts. Every manuscript gets automatic daily snapshots, and you can create manual save points whenever you like — then compare any version with what you have now and restore it if needed.

Automatic snapshots

• The first time you save a manuscript each day (saving happens automatically as you type), Scriptorium takes a snapshot of it.
• The last 7 daily snapshots are kept per manuscript; older ones are cleaned up automatically.
• It all happens in the background and never slows down your writing.

Manual snapshots

Before a big revision, take a manual snapshot:

• Snapshot a single manuscript or the entire project at once.
• Give it a description (“Draft 2 before killing the subplot”) and rename it later.
• Manual snapshots are never deleted automatically.

Tip

Found an automatic snapshot you want to keep beyond the 7-day window? Promote it to a manual snapshot — it’s then kept forever.

The Snapshot Manager

Open Version History in the Tools panel to browse everything:

• Filter by All / Manual / Auto
• Rename manual snapshots, delete ones you don’t need, promote auto snapshots

Comparing versions

Select a snapshot to see a visual diff against the current content:

• Green — text that would come back if you restore
• Red / strikethrough — text you’d lose by restoring
• Blue — formatting or property changes

Restoring

Click Restore on a snapshot to bring it back. Scriptorium first takes a safety snapshot of the current state — so even a restore is reversible.
