Relationships

Relationships are typed connections between the things in your project: Elena appears in Chapter 3, The Sunken City is ruled by House Maren, Research note about medieval sailing. They’re navigable from both sides and show up across the app.

Relationship templates

Every relationship has a type, defined by a relationship template in Project Settings → Relationships:

Labels — one for each direction (e.g. “appears in” / “contains”)
Icon and color
Direction:
- Bidirectional — both sides see the connection (with the same label, or a direction-specific one)
- Unilateral — only the side that created it sees it
Restrictions — limit which kinds of items (entities, manuscripts, notes, files, map pins) or which entity types can participate

New projects include ready-made templates such as Entity ↔ Manuscript (appears in / contains), Notes ↔ Entity (about / noted in), and Entity ↔ Pin (located at / location of).

Adding relationships

From any entity, manuscript, note, file, or map pin:

Find the Relationships section in the page’s sidebar.
Click add, choose the relationship type, and search for the item to connect.
Done — both sides now show the connection (for bidirectional types).

Duplicates are prevented automatically.

Other ways to connect things:

Mindmap — drag from one node to another to create a relationship visually.
Tables — relationship columns in tables and the Project Table support inline editing.

Using relationships

Click a related item to jump to its page.
Hover over a relationship to reveal the unlink action.
On mindmaps, relationships appear as labeled, colored edges between nodes.
