Which platforms does it run on?

Does my data ever leave my computer?
Section titled “Does my data ever leave my computer?”Your manuscripts, notes, and AI interactions never leave your device. The only things we store are what’s required to operate your account (email and login credentials) and messages you choose to send through the feedback feature. That account data is stored in Europe and protected under GDPR. Read more in Where your data lives.
What’s your stance on AI?
Section titled “What’s your stance on AI?”Scriptorium is built around local AI. We don’t send your prompts or writing to cloud AI providers. Instead, you can install language models, speech-to-text, and text-to-speech models that run directly on your computer. Our goal is to make private, local AI accessible with a one-time purchase — not an ongoing subscription.
I don’t want to use AI. Are the AI plugins optional?
Section titled “I don’t want to use AI. Are the AI plugins optional?”Absolutely. AI features are completely optional. No models are installed unless you download them, and you can use Scriptorium as a traditional writing application forever.
Do I need an internet connection?
Section titled “Do I need an internet connection?”Only to sign in, download updates, and install optional AI models. Once everything is installed, Scriptorium works entirely offline.
How much does it cost?

Can I import and export my work?
Section titled “Can I import and export my work?”Yes. Import DOCX and Markdown files; export to PDF, DOCX, and Markdown whenever you want. Your work is never locked into Scriptorium.
Where exactly is my data stored, and how do I back it up?
Section titled “Where exactly is my data stored, and how do I back it up?”Everything lives in a local database on your computer. Set up automatic backups to a folder synced by iCloud Drive, Dropbox, OneDrive, or similar — Scriptorium writes archives there and your cloud provider’s app handles the upload.
How do I move Scriptorium to a new computer?
Section titled “How do I move Scriptorium to a new computer?”Create a backup on the old machine, install Scriptorium and sign in on the new one, then run a full restore from the archive.
What happens when my trial ends?
Section titled “What happens when my trial ends?”Nothing is deleted. Your projects stay on your device in read-only mode — you can read everything, and editing unlocks the moment you purchase.
Can I use a fantasy calendar for my story?
Section titled “Can I use a fantasy calendar for my story?”Yes — define custom calendars with your own months, weekdays, and eras, and timelines will use them for all dates and labels.
