Which platforms does it run on?
Scriptorium runs natively on macOS, Windows, and Linux. One purchase covers all three platforms.
Does my data ever leave my computer?
We never store your manuscripts, notes, or AI conversations. The only information we keep is what's required to operate your account (such as your email/login credentials) and messages you choose to send through the feedback feature. This account data is stored in Europe and protected under GDPR.
Stance on AI
Scriptorium is built around local AI. We don't send your prompts or writing to cloud AI providers. Instead, you can install language models (LLMs), speech-to-text, and text-to-speech models that run directly on your computer. Our goal is to make private, local AI accessible with a one-time purchase—not an ongoing subscription.
I don't want to use AI. Are AI plugins optional?
Absolutely. AI features are completely optional. You can use Scriptorium as a traditional writing application without downloading or using any AI models.
Do I need an internet connection?
Only to sign in, download updates, and install optional AI models. Once everything is installed, you can use Scriptorium entirely offline.
How much does it cost?
Scriptorium is $60 as a one-time purchase — lifetime access, free updates, no subscription, and no feature gates.
Can I import and export my work?
Import DOCX and Markdown files. Export to PDF, DOCX, and Markdown whenever you want. Your work is never locked into Scriptorium.
