Timelines

Timelines put your story’s events on a horizontal, zoomable time axis. Zoom from a single morning out to entire eras, drag events to re-date them, and keep your chronology honest.

  1. Create a Timeline from the sidebar.
  2. Any entity with dates can appear on it. Entities with only a start date show as point events; entities with start and end dates show as duration bars.
  3. You can also create new entities directly on the timeline — click where the event happens.
  • Entities appear as cards on the axis, automatically stacked into lanes so they don’t overlap.
  • The two-row header shows the current time scale — e.g. years on top, months below.
  • Group by entity type to separate characters, events, and locations into bands.
  • Zoom with the zoom buttons, keyboard shortcuts, or trackpad — from 30-second resolution all the way to billion-year scales.
  • Pan by dragging the canvas or using the trackpad.
  • The minimap at the bottom gives an overview; drag its brush to jump anywhere, even when zoomed in deep.
  • Drag a card left or right to change its dates.
  • Click a card to open the entity’s sidebar and edit its details.
  • Create and delete cards directly on the canvas.
  • All of it is undoable.

Your pan and zoom position is remembered per timeline.

Timelines respect your project’s calendar system. If your world has ten months of 36 days and counts years from the Fall of the Empire, the axis, labels, and all date math follow suit.
